To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Many of Christopher Nolan's films deal with fantastical elements, but he likes to ground things in reality as much as possible, both on-screen and on-set. In the video below, he talks about how he keeps things as real as possible for the actors and the audience:

I know a lot of people in the industry, both users and developers alike.  I know almost the entire teams at Boris FX, Coremelt, Digital Anarchy, Rampant Design Tools, Imagineer Systems, and many others, but I’ll be honest.  I’ve always found Genarts to be a glass ceiling...

With the invention of computers, it’s almost comical to think about filmmakers using paintings to fill in the backgrounds of their movies. These days, you slap a green screen in back of the action and fill it in digitally.

Last week I landed an exclusive video interview with Weta Digital’s Senior Visual Effects Supervisor Joe Letteri. During the wide-ranging interview he talked about making The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, working with Peter Jackson, if they’re working on the extended cut, if he’s heard about more deleted scenes from The Lord of the Rings being included in the eventual ultimate Blu-ray box set for all six films (which I’ve heard is being worked on right now), the Avatar sequels, ...

Unbelieveable Basketball Trick Shots With AE

This video reminds me of my college days– spending time working with a friend while having next to no budget, but coming up with a fun idea for a short video that would allow us to flex some creative muscle. Corridor Digital may have a (small) budget for these, but what I enjoy about them is that the fun and creativity feels authentic, which you often only get when no agency or corporate sponsor is pushing creative decisions. In this video, you'll see the final clip, with the behind-the-scenes...
