It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

LOS ANGELES — Thirty-two features have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 92nd Academy Awards, though several of the films have not yet had their required Los Angeles seven-day qualifying run. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and comply with all of the category’s other qualifying rules before they can advance in the nominations voting process.

Two cinematographers speaking on an NAB New York panel agreed that the mix of speed and precision required on a commercial set makes the DIT a valuable collaborator when setting the look of a given spot. But they differed, somewhat, on the exact nature of that collaboration. Joe DeSalvo, a New York-based DP who specializes in automobile […] The post NAB Show NY: Why the DIT Is Key to Success on Set appeared first on Studio Daily.

Though critics didn’t seem to care for Gemini Man much, one of the consistent compliments among many have been with regards to the visual effects used to create a young Will Smith that faces off with an older version of Will Smith. The team behind this amazing technological achievement in visual effects has consistently touted the fact that they didn’t simply de-age Will Smith’s face, but instead, they created a completely digital model of young Will Smith that was informed by a motion-cap...

I’m certainly no IT whizz, but as an editor and all-around “workflow guy,” I’ve used and done basic management of a number of different shared storage solutions, going all the way back to Avid MediaShare SCSI. Shared storage solutions, aka storage area networks (SAN), have evolved from SCSI connectivity to Fibre Channel (both copper […]
