To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Looks like the saga of John Textor continues. When Digital Domain went down and took Florida taxpayers for a $100 million bath I speculated that it would become an election issue. Well current Governor Rick Scott will be taking on the previous Governor Charlie Crist who presided over the Digital Domain deal. It seems the Scott administration would like to utilize an investigation on the Digital Domain bankruptcy to potentially target Crist...

I flew to Siggraph in Vancouver to attend an ADAPT Q&A with Scott Ross. While I didn’t count the exact number of people there about half of the 100-seat room was filled. I gave an overview of the anti-subsidy duty legal effort we were pursuing and then we answered everyone’s questions.

SIGGRAPH 2014: Fabric Engine's potential for VFX

August 15, 2014, 04:45 AM

http://www.postmagazine.com/Post-Blog/2014/August/...

Fabric Engine is a visual framework for rapid development of custom 3D VFX tools that are as fast as dedicated custom "written from scratch" applications, but without the usual costs in time and resources. It does this by providing a core, node-based GUI development environment that can take full advantage of the computer's GPU. Much of the overhead and time involved in developing a standard one-off application is taken up in user interface and basic data IO. Fabric Engine can generate st...

Is CGI set to change comics forever?

With their complex meta-narratives, alternate universes and rebirths and renewals, comics have traditionally been a niche passion. You may have enjoyed Thor: The Dark World, but did you get all the nuanced references?
