To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Remote Editing: Big Sky and Running Man

September 23, 2021, 08:58 AM

https://postperspective.com/remote-editing-big-sky...

Post editors historically have worked from a facility, whether that is rented space for a specific project or at the studio where they are employed. However, that was pre-COVID. Once the pandemic hit, the “traditional” workflow had to change, and change it did! Independent editors working out of temporary locations on a per-project basis as well as those at studios where they are employed suddenly found themselves — like so many others across the industry — working from their homes. By Karen Moltenbrey When editing longer-form projects, such as a series, time is crucial, not only in adhering to deadlines, but also to ensuring that the final edit runs to the exact minute or frame, especially when airing on network television. More often than not, though, this means finally getting the cut where the creative team wants it to be and then finding teeny areas to tighten up throughout in order to shave off a few seconds overall. By Mike McCarthy How do you control your editing application? Whether you are editing in Avid Media Composer, Apple Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, Blackmagic Resolve or even Vegas, you are basically trying to communicate with a piece of software and make it very precisely alter a group of video clips. The more efficiently you can get the ideas from your mind into the software, Continue reading → September 21, 2021 The post Editing Interfaces — Why They’re Important appeared first on postPerspe...

By Randi Altman We reached out to editors and those who make editing products to ask about the evolution of both tools and workflows. (Looking at you, COVID-19.) The biggest trends of the past year have been working remotely and cloud. What lies ahead? Likely a mix of in-studio and at-home setups, Continue reading → September 22, 2021 The post Virtual Roundtable: Editing appeared first on postPerspective.

This is one big reason why computer performance keeps getting better
