To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Review: DaVinci Resolve 16's Cut Page

May 13, 2019, 05:58 AM

The biggest surprise from Blackmagic’s NAB Resolve demo was the addition of a brand-new page called the Cut Page. The new page is intended to simplify and streamline the editing process by removing many of the systematic elements of the edit page. The Cut Page is for those on the go — editors who drop their footage into the timeline then quickly edit, render, and deliver. This isn’t ideal for longer projects, but for short scenes and simple vlogs, the Cut Page is your new home.

The smarts behind Smart Hulk

We’ve seen Hulk in a lot of Marvel films, but never like this. Avengers: Endgame features the fully computer-generated Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) character in a form where Banner has merged his intelligence with the Hulk’s, well, Hulkish-ness. That required a whole new approach on the part of visual effects, which had to capture Ruffalo and then bring a performance to life that was somewhat closer to the human actor than they had done previously.

Is It Time For Avid To Refresh The Pro Tools Graph

The look, feel and overall layout of the Pro Tools user interface hasn’t really changed that much over the years. Take a close look at both the images below. One is of Pro Tools 5 from around 2002, the other is of Pro Tools today in 2019. Apart from the obvious advances in graphics technology clearly separating the two versions there really isn’t that much between these user interfaces in terms of general design, layout and form factor.
