It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I’ve been an editor for a while now at several different shops. Through those days and places I have mostly been self taught until I ended up here with SuiteTake. At SuiteTake training and skill development is not just encouraged, it’s part of our daily responsibilities. Therefor, in the recent past my learning curve has increased dramatically.

Well, actually, he has two arms, but one is soon-to-be in a sling. One of my coworkers has to go in for shoulder surgery and will be in a sling for a few months. Sadly he won’t be able to take three months off from work. He knows I like to cut and solder stuff, so he asked for my help in building some sort of custom controller to allow him to still hit shortcuts with his left hand while it is in a sling.

If you have a Canon 5D/7D project and are grappling with an offline-online workflow. Or you've been through the reconnect hell in FCP. Or you need a better consolidate workflow. Especially for projects that originate with digital files like HDSLR files or some other such.

Having edited professionally for more than a decade now, I have watched the editorial landscape change dramatically in terms of clients' expectations—especially in the realm of commercial editorial. I believe the demand for faster turnarounds and better-looking offline edits is directly related to how we perceive and embrace today's world of high-end desktop applications and high-tech devices. The assumption is, and it is a correct assumption, that since editorial tools (in my case Avid)...

Everyone needs a summer break, right? (Did you notice how I didn’t use the word "deserve"?) So the Avid Screencast will be on summer hiatus until September 9th, while I will enjoy a nice vacation with my girlfriend and the the two kids in Greece. Until then, check out some old episodes. If you’re anything like me, you have forgotten pretty much everything by now, anyway!

Red Giant Software’s engineers have been busy this year expanding the Magic Bullet franchise. Products have included versions for Photoshop and the iPhone, as well as variations of the ever-popular Looks. This line of innovative color correction tools got its start with Colorista, a custom 3-way color correction plug-in for Apple Final Cut Pro, Motion and Adobe After Effects.

If you work in the postproduction universe than you probably know that Apple introduced new Mac Pros today (or yesterday, Tuesday, depending on when you’re reading this). You probably also know that many folks were underwhelmed by what they introduced as the new Mac Pros are missing a few significant parts and pieces that many thought would be introduced when this refresh happened. They do look like they’ll be plenty fast when they ship in August. But they will be expensive!

So Apple has rolled out their latest round of iMacs. I recently finally updated my trusty black MacBook to Snow Leopard, and disappointed myself when I’d forgotten that I can’t run the latest Final Cut Pro on it at ALL. So revisiting these iMacs, how are they for running the Final Cut Studio suite? And beyond can they, should you consider it as an editing platform?
