It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The moon is quite clearly one color, yet filmmakers consistently color its light differently. Find out why, and decide if you should, too.

For many of you, the answer to the question posed in the title of this article is, "Of course, you fool. Use false color in every situation!" And I'm over here like, "Yeah, I get it, but..." Histograms, zebra overlays, and waveforms are definitely helpful exposure tools, and waveforms especially have done a great job at showing filmmakers where they have exposure. If you prefer any of these to monitor your luminance, fab! But because false color is powerful enough to show you the specific exposu...

My first classes were released in 2007 and it was one of the first ever FXPHD offerings, 30 minute tutorial films released every week over a 10 week term. We decided to run the class on a daVinci 2k color corrector. FXPHD didn’t own one so we had to beg, borrow and steal from the Post Houses in Sydney. The grading rooms were over $1000 an hour back then so we had to be in and out very quickly, sometimes only shooting 3 lessons during their downtime.

We are so ecstatic to move into final color on our film Mushka. In this scene above we find out that Sarah's and Mushka's sleeping quarters have gotten too small for a girl and a Siberian tiger. Mushka turns over in bed, causing Sarah to fall to the floor. A color pencil texture will be added in order to avoid the conventional cel-painted look. Our final color scenes rock!!
