It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The classic sunset shot that closes out the day or the entire narrative of your film is a cinematic staple. Whether you want your characters sitting on the beach, standing on top of a building, or riding off into the sunset, capturing the shot is the first step in the process. Because sunsets are so wildly different from one another, they all need different color grading. Here are a few different ways to color grade your sunset in Premiere Pro and After Effects.

The new Netflix hit series GLOW straddles a fine visual line. The show’s hook is a promotional gimmick dating back to the mid-1980s, when a maverick World Wrestling Association promoter moved to Hollywood and established an all-woman organization called Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, or GLOW for short. The setting demands a period look and feel — but […] The post Light Iron Colorist Ian Vertovec on GLOW and Getting a Mid-80s Film Look in HDR appeared first on Studio Daily.

EditStock Color Pack Professional colorist know how hard it is to find quality practice projects for their craft. In the past colorists would use traditional stock footage, or camera test footage to practice with. But professional color correction is not about "fixing" a single shot. Color correction means creating a consistent, stylistic look and feel that enhances a project's storyline. It is for this reason that EditStock created the Color Pack. Now you can practice color c...

Plenty of people stare at computer monitors all day — if you’re reading this, chances are you’re doing just that. But how many people take the time to calibrate their computer monitor? It’s now been over two years since “Mad Max: Fury Road” first raced into our hearts, and yet we still can’t stop thinking about it almost every single day. Fortunately, neither can most cinephiles. Every month there appears to be a new exploration of the action movie, breaking down one of its pitch perfect visual elements. The latest video essay comes from Fandor, and it breaks down the color grading that makes “Fury Road” such an eye-popping visual experience.
