It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It's been a long road for Avid Technology over the past few months. In late February, the Burlington-based maker of audio and video software was delisted from the Nasdaq stock exchange and has been trading on the over-the-counter market ever since. The main reason? Avid wasn't filing its required paperwork detailing its finances on time.

The Panasonic GH4 is an amazing small 4K capable camera that everyone is talking about. Since Dave Dugdale had just posted a full 45 minute review of the camera we decided he would be the perfect person to talk to. In addition, Dave was in the middle of an A7S review so he had some choice comments on the camera we discussed last week.

Personally, I had no problem with the design of the Turtles in Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I enjoyed the detail and think the darker, more realistic look is what helped make them feel natural (or at least as natural as possible) in the New York City environment. The preliminary Turtle design that just surfaced, however?

Strong characters, immersive environments and a ripping 80s soundtrack – that’s Marvel’s latest film Guardians of the Galaxy in a nutshell. With two main characters that would be realized entirely in CG, and with vast space and earth-like environments to create, the visual effects crew were once again crucial to completing the film.

Drobo, a popular brand of connected storage arrays, has today issued a notable software update that should cheer up some Mac users. The company’s new drive software now more easily works with OS X’s Time Machine backup service. By default, Time Machine automatically allocates storage in external drives to be wholly used for Time Machine backups. If you want to use a single Drobo drive for holding both a Time Machine backup and separate stored data, you would have to simply manually drop fold...
