It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Location shoots require swift methods of getting content to partners hours or days away, which can mean time, cost and complexity - especially with high end cinematic camera where the file sizes are large, it usually means there is no easy way to get dailies into cloud-based workflows.

I have been on the quest to have the Avid automatically change the link to essence method from "Source File" to "Tape" metadata. This would fix a major issue in what I like to call "Now-Proof and Future-Proof". A solution, a batch method much like how one can use merge import option with an ALE. Visuals (picture/file based/tape-less/non-tape sources), AMA and what I like to call legacy "File>Import" do not display populated metadata in the "Tape" column of the Avid bin for master clips by defaul...

Here is Part 1 of 3 on a case study of the shot compositions from Pixar's film "The Incredibles, I'll go over how the relationships of all the visual elements on screen were meticulously crafted to form a point focus in every shot. It is through the arrangement and control of all the elements on screen that the filmmakers were able to guide the sight, thoughts and emotions of the audience. One of the big features of the new Mac Pro is the ability to operate multiple 4K displays via the Thunderbolt connection. Though the option itself sounds great, choosing a 4K display may not be so easy, and definitely is costly (not to mention a couple of these). As 9to5mac.com reports, for a short period of time Apple was offering Sharp 4K displays in the European online Apple Store, but they have been withdrawn quickly (image below).
