To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Countdown: Part 2: 10 Beliefs about editors

October 22, 2012, 05:36 PM

http://www.joyoffilmediting.com/index.php/archives...

Today's post concludes the Letterman-style countdown designed to counteract the misconceptions held by way too many people. 5. Putting footage together is a no brainer. Au contraire. I, and filmmakers far greater than me, believe that editing is what set filmmaking apart from other arts. Editing mimics thought. It accomplishes this with the selection of...

Oh... That's a compiler bug

The worst possible answer to a customer problem is that it's a hardware bug. Hardware bugs are expensive to fix. You not only have to replace the hardware, you may also have to replace everything you’ve got on the shelves. You can't do this until you’ve "fixed" the problem, which might cost millions of dollars and take months. Hardware problems suck.

Creating 3D in After Effects: Element 3D

October 22, 2012, 05:30 PM

http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/after-effects/creat...

A popular trend in TV commercials is 3D Text & Objects. Generally, these are done in a 3D app like Cinema 4D or Maya, as After Effects prior to CS6 was a 2.5 D app. Layers could be in 3D space, but they didn’t actually have depth or extrusion. In CS6, Adobe added the ability to extrude Text and Shape layers.

Alex4D Scale Mosaic

This Final Cut Pro X effect is an alternative way of adding a pixellation effect to a clip. It divides the clip into a grid and scales up each grid element. Apologies to Matt Davis for scrambling his face.

In this tutorial, Kevin P McAuliffe shows you, with the help of a free 3rd Party Plug-in, how to take all of your current and legacy FCP7 projects, and convert not only the sequence, but the actual media itself over to use in your new MC or Symphony setup. Once you see how easy it is, you won't need to work in two NLE's, you can just migrate all of your FCP7 projects over, and never look back.
