It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

An interesting post from Chris Marquardt notes that the gamma that Final Cut Pro X uses in the Viewer is different from the gamma used in QuickTime X. He notes that he thought Final Cut Pro X was supposed to handle color issues through ColorSync and solve problems like that...

As we transition from Final Cut Pro to another NLE, I'm running a series of tests to determine which NLE will best suit our needs. Of paramount concern is to ensure that we can still access the 1,000+ Final Cut Pro projects we have on file dating back 10 years of production. We often have to do revisions and updates, particularly for news stories.

As if there's isn't enough Final Cut Pro X stuff out there on the web a week after its release, I want to pimp a couple of things that I've been involved in regarding Final Cut Pro X. First is the return of That Post Show (iTunes link) with a full edition devoted to FCPX and second is the FilmmakingWebinars.com Final Cut Pro X Hands On Tour.

Since my article appeared on the Creative Cow Website, Final Cut Pro X: What's missing for some Pros, I've gotten multiple references to throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

The release of Final Cut Pro X reminds the situation which occured with iMovie 8. Apple's Chief Architect of Video Applications Randy Ubillos had created an application called "First Cut" which later evolved into iMovie '08. iMovie '08 was met with similarly mixed reactions as the premiere of Final Cut Pro X due to the complete overhaul over iMovie 6. Originally First Cut was born to let users import their raw footage and quickly skip through, organizing and building a rough edit.

Since Apple launched Final Cut Pro X last Tuesday, I've had more than 3,500 emails that range from "I'm enjoying FCP X and creating useful projects," to "FCP X will destroy my ability to make a living." (And, ah, far worse, I’m sad to say.)

Apple's release of Final Cut Pro X earlier this week was hit by negative reviews and complaints from professional video editors, many calling it nothing more than iMovie Pro. New York Times's technology columnist, David Pogue, has fed back on Apple's answers to these complaints in a post.
