It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

For John Knoll, ILM’s Oscar-winning VFX supervisor (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”) and chief creative officer, the making of “Rogue One” — the first “Star Wars” standalone film, which he created — offered more freedom than any other project.

If you're a movie buff, you've probably wished that you could walk into a scene and explore it on your own terms. Well, so did software engineer Quentin Lengele -- and he's close to making his dream a reality. He recently released footage of Blade Runner 9732, a years-long project that sets out to recreate Blade Runner protagonist Rick Deckard's apartment in virtual reality using the Unity engine.

There’s a huge debate going on among movie fans, and Star Wars fans specifically, if digitally resurrecting an actor to craft a new performance in a film is ethical. And that is a conversation to have, but technologically, how did ILM, Lucasfilm and Disney actually bring Peter Cushing back from the grave to cast the evil shadow of Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One? And will it become a more common occurance?

One of the landmark scenes in Morten Tyldum’s outer space thriller Passengers features starship passenger Aurora Jane (Jennifer Lawrence) taking a dip in the ship’s swimming pool. When the anti-gravity fails, Aurora is pulled into a large droplet of water hovering in the air.

Making a new “Star Wars” movie can be like gaining access to a toy collection that has been amassed over four decades. For the creators of “Rogue One,” a film designed as a narrative lead-in to the original “Star Wars,” it was a chance to play with characters, vehicles and locations sacred to this series.
