It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

A recent thread in Creative COW's Apple Motion forum led longtime VFX artist, editor, software developer, and business owner Simon Ubsdell down his own path of discovery on how to tackle this, providing a reminder in this first of a series that there's more than one fruitful route to creativity using Motion's extensive toolset for generating media, animation, customization, rigging, and much more.

One of the smaller items of M&A action to come out of NAB this year could still lead to some of the coolest tools a little bit further down the line; well-regarded software developer Hedge, which specialises in making backup software for filmmakers, has acquired fellow developer Postlab.

We rightly focus on the “big” decisions of life: high school major, college choice, partner, where to live, what job to take, etc. These are important decisions and will affect your future. The funny thing is, some of the smallest decisions I’ve made, have had the biggest affect on my life. Deciding to leave a […]

When Blackmagic displayed their dedicated Resolve keyboard at NAB, I thought it was a winner, a product thought I had had in my head for many years. Now I'm not too sure, what would the ideal dedicated NLE keyboard look like?

“Animation is an iterative process, and it’s changing every step of the way,” said editor Robert Fisher Jr. at NAB earlier this month, discussing the creative collaboration that brought the widely acclaimed animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to movie theater screens last year. To illustrate his point, Fisher came to a Monday morning panel […] The post Editing in the Spider-Verse: How Key Scenes Changed on the Way to the Screen appeared first on Studio Daily.

One of the eternal rules in production and post production is that media will always expand to fill the space you allocate it + a bit more. There is always too much, and individual operators and small to medium post houses have tended to struggle on with NAS devices as they don’t have the room nor the budget for rack system storage.
