To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Latest Avid Release dropped today

I used to know everything about Media Composer. I had taken RTFM to heart and had literally read every page of every document (editing, effects, workflow, color grading) and even tech checked much of it. Avid even sent me a “Junior Tech Pubs Sheriff’s Badge.” (So somebody with a sense of humor must have been sick of the many corrections I sent in.)

These updates are always a bit of a treat. What I mean by that is that normally when a point point update comes out, it’s normally bug fixes only. Well, this point point version release of Media Composer actually has some pretty cool new features in it, some of which are simple work flow enhancements (moving clips up and down tracks), and some are essential work flow updates (Relinking across Frame Rates). All of this, plus support for 10.13, High Sierra, makes this an update that Media Compos...

At last week's FCPX Creative Summit, Apple unveiled Final Cut Pro X's 10.4 update, which looks to be a pretty massive overhaul of the layout and functionality of the company's flagship NLE. Despite the addition of Touch Bar support getting the prime spot in the announcement, other features like new color wheels and RGB and hue/saturation curves, redesigned flat interface, and extensive VR support are some of the most exciting (and requested) upgrades from the previous version. Let's take a look ...

I sat in my office and stared at the brown cardboard box holding Blackmagic’s new ATEM Television Studio Pro HD switcher. How was I going to test and review this new switcher? My calendar just did not have a Multicam opportunity scheduled.

From IMAX to stereo3D, theaters have invested in various technologies to entice viewers and increase ticket sales. With a tip of the hat to the past, Barco has developed a new ultrawide, 3-screen digital projection system, which is a similar concept to Cinerama film theaters from the 1950s. But modern 6K-capable digital cinema cameras make […]
