To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The Tick recently wrapped its first split season on Amazon Video. The series mixes tongue-in-cheek humor with the high--energy action of an almost invulnerable superhero clad in a blue tick costume. The always optimistic character, who debuted as a comic book hero in the 1980s, befriends the nebbishy Arthur, who becomes his sidekick in their quest to save the city from supervillain The Terror.

Apple has suggested we change from MP3 to AAC, but many people are afraid that AAC may not be playable on all current players. So I created a bonus test episode. Many people mistakenly believe that that letter A in AAC stands for Apple. That is incorrect. The AAC acronym stands for Advanced Audio Códec, without any mention of Apple in the name. Apple did not create it. Apple just likes it.

Create a Color Theme for Adobe CC

I’m working on video series about Vincent Van Gogh, and I need to create some motion graphics elements for this project — mainly an opening animation, some simple lower third titles, and a few other elements. Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter known for using bold colors, so naturally, I want to sample some of these colors in my graphics. Lucky for me, Adobe has just the tools I need.

I recently completed a feature-length documentary edit using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 (12.1.2), and we had zero* crashes during the four week + edit. Was I shocked by this? Not at all. PPro is very stable for me, and I had no fears about stability when I jumped into this edit. It’s not the first longform documentary with a mountain of different formats and frame rates I’ve cut in PPro, and it won’t be the last.

Director David Lowery’s The Old Man & the Gun, allegedly the final film starring Robert Redford, is a master class in point and counterpoint. Monthly Theme: LoFi 2018

http://designingsound.org/2018/10/01/monthly-theme...

“LoFi” is a concept I am rather intrigued by. “LoFi” to me can mean creative, aesthetic, and technical limitations to a project. It can also mean “old”, in terms of resolution, fidelity, and durability. There is a bit of resurgence (or did it ever really go away) of using old media like vinyl, cassette, and […]
